Innovations to reuse plastic

It is estimated that around 5,000 billion plastic pieces “bask” in our oceans.
Just for plastic bottles, which are mostly made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate), it will take more than 400 years for them to decompose naturally, without ever really disappearing. These plastics will transform into micro-plastics and end up in the food chain.

However, PET is now recyclable. Today there are methods to transform this waste into resources. All that remains is to add value to the waste and above all not to create new waste.

Below, via the thumbnails, you have a non-exhaustive list of companies that have found a way to recycle these plastics and give a second life to our waste.

Lunettes

Seven out of ten people wear glasses. A pair of glasses is sold every two seconds; which is equal to 13 million a year in France alone. Imagine if the whole market began to use the plastic already present in our seas, or even better, before it ends in our waterways!

With Net Positiva, Karün collects fishing nets on the Chilean coasts and transforms them into glasses frames.

Clothes and accessories

It is now possible to transform our plastic waste, found at sea, into synthetic fibers. Aquafil, world leader and pioneer in innovations, offers ECONYL, a regenerated nylon, created from our waste present in our landfills and our oceans.

Now it’s time for designers and their new clothing lines. Here is a list of sports equipment that gives you an overview of the clothes made from this recycled fiber.
